Note from the owner of Survival Information...I'm guessing that if someone is breaking into your home
you're not the type of person that has to wait for a cop to deal with the situation. That being the case,
are you the type of person who has to wait on FEMA to take care of your emergency situation? Hmmn?

5. Trauma Kits
6. Rehydration Kits
7. First Aid Books

There are two scenarios to consider in survival situations.

  • Foreseen Survival Situation
  • Unforeseen Survival Situation

Most of us stick pretty close to home. Fewer venture into the deep woods. Fewer still explore the vast wilderness. Depending on what category your lifestyle involves will have a lot to do with what sort of a survival preparedness plan you institute.

However, for all of the above, there is the unforeseen survival circumstance. First, let's narrow down our needs. Let's choose a fictional character called Harold Lauder who lives in Hemingford Home, Nebraska, far away from the ocean. What would Harold do is our constant thought as we plan for his survival.

> > > > > > > >

First, let us consider a foreseen survival situation:

- Harold isn't worried about a tsunami, so he most likely won't need any sort of flotation device or shark repellant.

- Tornadoes are a possibility.

- Hemmingford Home has had no known earthquakes, volcanoes, or alien landings.

- Harold lives far out in the country not close to any town or even a country store.

Harold decides that except for tornadoes, due to his remote home, the foreseen and unforeseen survival situation amounts to about the same thing. He has plenty of canned food, and food he has canned, and he has tasty animals on his place that can be eaten like deer, rabbits, buffalo, rats, and chipmunks. He also has a well for fresh water.

So, of the items above, what would Harold choose to consider in his survival plans?

Harold settles on:

  • First aid Kit - (Survival Equipment of the FIRST order!)
  • Surgical Kit - (Harold is married with kids and his family knows how to skin a buck or gut a chicken, so Harold reasons in an unforeseen situation, the wife could use a surgical kit in a real emergency.)
  • Trauma Kit - Trauma happens on the farm. Harold decides this would be a good item to have around regardless of whatever other emergencies arise. It could be the difference between living and dying until proper medical help can arrive.
  • First Aid Book - Harold will not allow his wife to use the surgical tools until she has boned up on emergency survival techniques.

Harold Lauder settles down to study what survival supplies are available, now that he has a game plan. He's not rich, so he decides what is most important now, and makes a schedule he can stick with for the future to obtain the rest of the items.

Luckily for Harold, he writes his plan down and lists links to places that he can get his survival equipment. He highlights the links in blue. Now Harold goes to work. He briefly considers what would happen if a severe strain of flu breaks out which kills nearly everyone on earth, but decides there isn't much he can do about that. But anything less, Harold plans on being prepared!

Harold also decides that since the world isn't coming to an end, but might get chancy one day, to see what other survival equipment  is available. He finds:

Turning in after happily taking care of his new horde of survival equipment and survival supplies, Harold turns on the old oil lamp and settles in for a short reading session on favorite plagues by author, W. Survival Equipment, Survival Information and Planetary Conjunctions, Plagues, Misfortunes, War, Cholera, and more Plagues. Good Reasons for Survival Supplies

Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus to be in conjunction in the year 1881. Do pestilence, war, and earthquakes follow conjunctions? An account of what is to come!

The close proximity of two or more planets is always looked upon with much interest by those who are fond of star-gazing. And the minds of some persons not rightly instructed are filled with dire foreboding at the thought of such a phenomenon, on account of the notion that some sort of a pestilence or calamity will accompany or soon follow these planet-meetings in the sky.

The word conjunction is often used to express the near approach of two or more heavenly bodies. In other words, they appear near together being nearly in line of range, while they are really many millions of miles apart. But strictly this word relates to bodies having the same right ascension, or the same longitude, and thus may occur when they are several degrees apart, i.e., latitude or declination may differ by several degrees say from a foot to a yard or more while their right ascension of longitude (distance from the vernal equinox) is the same.

And when three or four members of the solar system occupy nearly the same place in the heavens, we are all justified in wanting a good view of the phenomenon though it some
times happens that we can not get it.

A good illustration of which occurs April 22,1881, when Jupiter and Saturn will be in conjunction, and near enough to he seen in one field of the telescope. But they will be as near the sun as to each other, which destroys all hope of seeing this interesting conjunction.

Phenomena of this character occur every year, more or less, particularly of the smaller planets, Mercury and Venus. But as they are frequent and often too near the sun to be visible, we care but little about these conjunctions, as compared with the near approach of large planets, particularly when three or more appear close together.

Next year will be unusually fruitful of conjunctions. In the evening of March 3, 1881, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and the moon, will all be within a few degrees of each other, and give a display of celestial lights which no one will want to miss sight of. But somebody thinks a calamity of some kind will accompany or soon follow this conjunction of the moon and bright planets.

Well, I do not presume to say what all, or how little, is going to happen in the Spring and Summer of 1881, but I have no fear of being hurt by tho conjunction. However, let us all, with manly fortitude and easy calmness, quietly wait and see.

A very singular matter connected with this subject is the supposed connection between the planetary conjunctions and pestilence, earthquakes and other dire calamities which occasionally manifest themselves on the earth. And one purpose of this article is to give the dates of several prominent conjunctions to compare with those of plague, battles, cholera, etc., and see what agreement may exist between conjuntions and calamities to the human race.

The most ancient conjunction that I have any account of is said to have occurred 2,441 years before the beginning of the Christian era, when Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the moon were all near together iu the Western part of the constellation Pisces. But as this is from the Chinese, and occurred before the flood, I leave it one side.

I do not find any account of plagues earlier than of Egypt, 1491 B.C. and as they were local judgments on Pharaoh and his people, they hardly belong to our subject.

I regret not having records of conjunctions to compare with those of plagues, earthquakes, battles, etc., recorded in ancient history. Some of these were of an awful devastating character among which may be mentioned a plague that occurred in all parts of the world, 767 B.C.; one in Carthage so terrible as to induce parents to sacrifice their children to appease the wrath of the gods, 534 B. C.

In the year  B.C. 430, Athens, Egypt, etc., were visited by a plague that caused terrible loss of life. Others of great fatality prevailed in Africa, Grecian Islands, etc., B.C. 188. in the Roman Empire from A.D. 80; again in the Roman Empire from 250 to 265 when for some time the deaths in Rome numbered 5000 daily, and many towns were entirely depopulated.

Another, of many years duration began in 558 prevailing to a great extent over Europe, Asia and Africa. And again for three years about 748, the plagues caused fearful ravages in Turkey, Sicily aud Greece.

A number of earthquakes and great battles are recorded, from the battle of Marathon, 490 B/C., and the earth quake of Pelopounnessus, 372 B.C. onward for many centuries. But no date of either of these corresponds with the date of any plague.

Now, if certain conjunctions were found to closely precede and accompany the one, of course they could not agree with the others. The first available record of a conjunction was that of September 15, 1186, when Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were all near together in the eastern part of Virgo. This is perhaps the most conspicuous and important conjunction that ever occurred nothing short of all the long known five planets appearing together as one group of brilliant stars.

Now, if conjunctions ever did exercise any influence in the production of war, pestilence, or other calamity, we might expect them to have occurred at that time. I find no account of battles or prevailing pestilence that year. But history tells of an earthquake in Calabria by which "a city and all its inhabitants were overwhelmed, in the Adriatic Sea." The day or the month of the earthquake is not given, and as the conjunction occurred in the middle of September, there are about three chances in one that the earth quake occurred before the conjunction, and hence could not have been caused by it.

The plague appeared in Ireland, in 1172 and 1204 fourteen years before and eighteen years after the great conjunction.

For many hundred years wars prevailed so nearly all the time, and battles occurred so nearly every year, that a scientific comparison of them and recorded conjunctions hardly need be attempted. And I am quite sure that neither one causes the other, any more than a certain star being over one's bead when he is born has an influence in forming his life-character.

The extensive plague which ravaged Europe with vast mortality in 1348, it is said, carried away 25,000,000 souls; but I find no conjunction within one hundred years of that time.
